CFWH Research Grant Process Guidelines

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Canadian Foundation for Women’s Health (CFWH) is pleased to provide research grants in the area of obstetrics and gynaecology.  Applications must be completed in full and submitted by March 15th of every year.  The applicant will receive a confirmation of receipt after submitting a completed application.  Click here to download the application form.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Applicant must be affiliated with a Canadian university or health care institution - Research proposals submitted must not be part of a larger project with funding from other sources and should have a time frame of two years or less.
  • Only research projects directly related to the area of obstetrics and gynaecology will be considered for funding.
  • Applicant must be a member in good standing of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada.
  • All grantees MUST attend the Awards Ceremony during the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada’s Annual Clinical Meeting

REVIEW

The review process is the responsibility of the Grants Committee of the Canadian Foundation for Women’s Health.  Each application will be thoroughly reviewed and checked for consistency in adherence with the guidelines outlined in this document.  Scoring will be based on several criteria including the following:

Relevancy of Proposal

Originality of Proposal

Feasibility of Proposal

Appropriate Methodology

The Grants Committee will review the blinded proposals and provide the CFWH National Office with their results.  All applicants will receive a notice of the results of the proposal review.

The grant will be awarded in person at the SOGC Awards Ceremony during the Annual Clinical Meeting in June.

POST-AWARD MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING

Upon award of a grant, the grantee is responsible for submitting the following to the Canadian Foundation for Women’s Health:

 

  • A biography of the principal investigator
  • A photo of the principal investigator (headshot)
  • Who to make the funds payable to
  • Where to send the funds

 

Grantees are responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of their grant and will be asked to provide a one-page progress report to the CFWH. 20% of the funding will be held until the project is complete and the final report has been received by the CFWH.

The final report should include:

  • A final budget breakdown
  • Acknowledgement of the support of the CFWH
  • Any other articles that have been published relating to or elaborating on the results of the completed project
  • Consent for CFWH to publish the report in part or in full

* In some cases, additional follow up may be requested by the CFWH to indicate further progress after the completion of the original project.
