About the Cause

The Canadian Foundation for Women’s Health is Canada’s leading charity committed to the advancement of sexual and reproductive health of women in Canada and around the world through groundbreaking research, comprehensive education and leading advocacy in obstetrics and gynaecology.

Pregnancy is a wonderful and positive experience, but most people don’t think of the challenges that come with it. CFWH Bumps on the Road -A 9K Walk for Pregnancy is the first time that everyone can come together and raise awareness and funds for research that addresses diseases or illness in pregnancy. Research topics that the CFWH supports can range from gestational diabetes, to high blood pressure and obesity in pregnancy.

October is Women’s History Month, SIDS Awareness Month, Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Child Abuse Awareness Month.  What better way to support CFWH’s women’s health research and initiatives by joining us on Sunday, October 21 2012, for our second annual “Bumps on the Road- A 9K Walk for Pregnancy”. By the way, Sunday, October 21 2012 also marks the first day of “Cervical Cancer Awareness Week”! Check our “Heart your cervix” campaign for more details!

What to wear

This walk is fun and visual!

Because 9K represents 9 months of carrying a baby, we are encouraging all participants, women and men, to wear their bellies with pride: real or fake! We encourage you to wear a weighted backpack or a fake belly to see what it feels like to carry extra weight while being pregnant.  Get creative! Add weights at every 3K, representing a trimester and getting heavier as the walk goes on.

Information for the Day-of

Parking is not available onsite. Please park on the street (while respecting the times and locations) 

8:00 a.m. – Registration and Kit pick-up at Andrew Hayden Park
9:00 a.m. – Walk begins
noon         – Event is closed
